Big Data? Do NOT put IT in the driver’s seat
Dec 4, 2013
In 2015, the financial services industry will spend 6.4 billion dollar on Big Data. The software and Internet industry will spend 2.8 billion. Government also, communication and media 1.2 billion, and finally energy and utilities “only” 800 million.
The companies that use analytics best are twice more likely to have a top-quartile financial performance, they are five times more likely to make decisions “much faster” than their competition, and they are three times more likely to execute decisions as intended.
How do they do it? By NOT having IT in charge!
Business units should lead, with or without HQ to back them up. A central team should manage all information and prioritize initiatives. Ideally also an independent Center of Excellence would oversee the whole effort.
