I think it’s great that the “open” mindset is making such inroads into IT, hardware, even the mainstream public to some extent. I actually read the term “source code” and “looking at the source code” being used in a sports context about a year ago.
That said, it’s important to remember that most of the phrases in this article involving “open” are still alien to various decision-makers. Show them results first, then explain how “open” lowered the costs, or increased productivity or just plain made everyone look good. I’ve seen too many people get a bewildered look on their face when I spoke of “open source” to them. Then a light bulb goes off when I talk about fast turn-around cycles or low cost to entry
