CALM TECHNOLOGY TO REVIVE BLACKBERRY IN 2014

What if I made you CEO of Blackberry for the coming years? What would you do? I thought about this, and I had an idea: they should be the first to create the next generation phone: The Calm Phone. Instead of making yet another cool gadget that has lots of bells and whistles, Blackberry should focus on one target audience: very busy professionals.more–> People who simply don’t have the time to fiddle with apps, many social media channels and lots of options. These people want calm technology that is there to help them with information and functionality that is highly contextual and to the point. So an app-store with ten or a hundred apps, not a million. A social media app that shows only a handful of hand-picked contacts, not thousands. A strong focus on to-do lists, calendar and, of course, security. They could include some special options for working with your real human executive assistant: give the option to push messages to the front screen, pick up calls that are sent to the mobile device, have priority access to location etc. That way the owner of the phone could indicate one highly trusted person to help optimize the content on the phone and thereby the life of the owner. (Perhaps even offer this personal assistant, off-shore, as part of the contract?)

Of course, there would be web-access, and the phone would allow the company to install their own dedicated apps, for example related to workflow, but ideally there would be a framework that turns everything into a specific category: a personal message, a to-do-item, a news update, etc.

It should be a true status-symbol to ‘graduate’ to the Blackberry: a pricey, stable, phone with long battery life and superior simplicity. All C-level executives would carry one. And the good thing is: Blackberry probably has all the technology, and half of the brand already to do this. I hope they see the light…

Or am I wrong? Is this a dead-on-arrival idea? Nobody wants a phone like this anymore? What advice would YOU give to Blackberry? Let’s discuss in the comments!
