Introduction/Overview

Land has always been a valuable resource to individuals, organizations as well as governments. The process of ownership of land has taken transitions through various eras from dominating fights to paper work to digital processes. While digitalization made the process faster & less of a hassle, people still rely on mercy of centralised authorities or government for maintaining integrity of data which itself makes the entire system untrustworthy. A system needs to be developed to get rid of the middleman or agencies maintaining the process which in turn takes their power to manipulate data and maintain its integrity.  The best way is to enable a system backed up by a trustless platform called blockchain making it distributed and end-to-end secured. Moreover, with advancements in field of AI, a off-chain model can be integrated via APIs to make the entire system smarter.

Problem Statement

Creating a system for land registration and ultimately for land management using blockchain to eradicate any doubt for integrity of data which in turn solves many major issues such as disputed land. The system will further be integrated with a off-chain AI model making it efficient with recommendations, land pricing, fraud detection and other smart benefits

Proposed Solution(s)

The system will be a web based platform built on Ethereum blockchain network which will maintain a distributed ledger for data and keep it immutable. Each piece of land will be represented using security tokens which will contain every detail of respective land units. Owner of the security token will be owner of that piece of land and can trade it within the network. Ai models for improvement of the system in terms of fraud detection, land usage recommendation, land pricing, potential disputes on land, etc will be integrated off-chain to make the system more robust.

Introduction of Solution(s)

An Ethereum network will be created with consensus block being the existing non-disputed land registrations appended into the distributed ledger. As this data will be immutable, special  care is to be taken in initial data being truthful. Each owner will be represented by a wallet holding security tokens for the land under their ownership. Once data has been fed, transaction will be taken care using smart contracts which will also be integrated with AI models for validating the transaction. As blockchain networks are known to be slower with transactions, the AI model will be off-chain and APIs will be used to interact whenever required.
Also, computational power is a known requirement for blocks to be added to blockchain after each transaction. As the system will not be owned by any authority, required mining will be done with nodes or members of the chain network  who will in turn get rewards that can be later claimed for special subsidy of governmental initiatives. This will maintain the end-to-end security for the users as well as make governmental initiatives more fruitful & sensible to be earned.

Application of Solution(s)

The primary application will be focused on getting land registration process trustworthy and incorporating features for land management. This may be taken to an extent where usage of land, crops favourable to be grown on land, appropriate value of land and many more features can be provided using the integrated AI model.
The system will not be just limited to this process but any process which requires integrity of data and trust to be maintained can be onboarded using smart contracts. For example, donations to NGOs are easily manipulated by middlemen. If transactions get end-to-end and immutable, there’s no chance of any part of donations being stolen.

Once the blockchain network is been adopted across departments, organizations, individuals, it can be easily used as a distributed ledger for any kind of service to be provided In a trustless environment.

Future/Long-Term Focus

Long term focus will involve standardization of the process across the system and its total adoption. Also, advancements of AI models and other off-chain integrated helper tools would made the system more resilient and robust. As people have their trust with this transparent system, it can further be incorporated for any other service making the system as a one stop solution.

Conclusion

With advancements in technology, it is important to make sure we make every system evolve to an extent where the long prevailing issues are addressed and tackled. Untrustworthy authorities and middlemen have always been a major character in all sorts of unwanted disputes and corruption . A system built on transparency and equal authority would serve just right for such issues.
