On the 15th of October our book “Real Fake – Playing with Reality in the Age of AI, Deepfakes and the Metaverse” has been released. It is our take on synthetic media, deepfakes, fake news, conspiracy theories, memes, internet culture, Generation Z and Alpha, crypto, narrative economics, virtual humans, CGI influencers, vTubers, NFTs, DAOs, VR, Web3, the Creator Economy and the Metaverse. Real Fake is about how humans continuously manipulate reality and how new digital technology tools enable us to go one step further in this ancient game.
MUST READ: YouTube Culture & Trends Report 2022
“Internet culture has become popular culture and popular culture has become more individualized. […] The evolution of pop culture = personal relevance + depth of experience. […] Fan communities used to be a side effect of entertainment. Today, they are central to the entertainment experience. […] In short the way to forge meaningful relationships with Generation Z (and anyone else) are through communities, formats and moods.”
I think this is the most important report that I’ve read for a very long time. It’s basically a very good summary of the 7th chapter “The Narrative Economy” of our book Real Fake (get it here: https://lnkd.in/eGREz6jF) .
Can Virtual Reality Help Ease Chronic Pain?
“V.R. treatments may provide relief similar to intravenous opioids — a tantalizing prospect for the millions of Americans living with chronic pain.”
Are We Post-Platform?
“Platforms have boxed our social lives and creative endeavors into slick, hyper-designed perimeters, guiding users through algorithmically perfect scrolls. Encouraging self-gratification, they even reward us for using their templates, filters, hashtags, and stickers. […] Enter: web3, where participants use a wallet application like MetaMask, or Rainbow, to interact directly with the blockchain. Rather than logging into each individual website with an email and password, only to upload your files over again, your wallet acts as your login. It’s almost like a digital backpack that stores all of your assets—such as NFTs, and crypto balances. You can swap wallet providers at any time, but your assets remain under your control, in your wallet, as you travel from online destination to destination. […] All of this to say: there is no longer a single narrative, or aesthetic that necessarily bounds your artwork (or album, or video, or article) to the platform that originally hosted it. […] The “right to leave” is the hallmark of the post-platform era.”
