Identifying runway incursion as one of the major threat to modern day aviation safety, Faizan innovated a system named as GRIPS (Ground Reality Information Processing System), to prevent runway incursion, runway excursion and detect foreign object and debris on runways in real time. Working model of GRIPS was developed and demoed in the year 2011 by his startup company incorporated specifically to develop GRIPS.For his innovation GRIPS he was nominated, finalist and awarded various prestigious national and international awards likes: ‘Business Leaders of Tomorrow Award-2011’ by Economic Times and Ernst & Young (top 5 in India among 50,000 nominees, ‘Airline Industry Innovation Award – 2013’ (Winner), ‘IHS Jane’s Air Traffic Management Award – 2014’ (shortlisted among top 4 runway safety technologies developed globally) by World Air Traffic Management Congress. He is fondly called as ‘Pride of India’ by media and in government circles. His expertise is often sought by global R&D communities. He is nominated and worked as Judge for the prestigious ‘R&D 100 Award’ which is called as ‘Oscar of Invention’. There he evaluated latest innovations from top federal research labs in the US and across the globe. He is also nominated as a Judge in the aerospace category at ‘Spirit of Innovation Challenge Award’, a global innovation contest conducted by Conrad Foundation, Lockheed Martin, & US President's Challenge Program and hosted by NASA.Apart from technology, his advice and comments are regularly sought on national and international aviation safety matters by national mainstream print and electronic media. Faizan was recently granted permanent residence in the USA under ‘Alien of Extraordinary Ability’, a category normally reserved for Noble Laureates and scientists who reach to the very top in the field of their endeavors. Various scientists from NASA, Pentagon & US Air Force recommended his permanent residency to USCIS.Faizan is also a numismatist with his coin’s collection dating back to 600 B.C. He learned ancient Indian languages- Sanskrit, Brahmi and Kharoshti to decipher his collection of ancient coins. He lives in Dallas, Tx with his wife Asma and 5 months old daughter Ayat. He has an MS Degree in Computers and a certificate in Embedded System Design from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
